A trumpeter, composer, and educator, Dr. Daniel Jonas is currently Associate Professor of Music at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, where he directs the Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combos, teaches all jazz curriculum, and serves as Program Director for Music. A native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Dr. Jonas received his D.M.A. in Jazz Studies from the University of Colorado in 2013, his Master’s in Jazz Performance from DePaul University in 2005, and his Bachelor’s of Music in Trumpet Performance from the University of New Mexico in 2003. He is a frequent freelance performer in Ogden and the greater Salt Lake City area and can be heard performing regularly with the Night Star Jazz Orchestra and Hot House West. He’s appeared nationally as a member of the Ben Markley Big Band, and also appeared at many festivals and conferences, including the Jazz Education Network Conference, the Midwest Clinic, the Charlie Christian Jazz Festival, the Telluride Jazz Festival, and internationally at the Guatemala Jazz Festival. His recording credits include his recent releases Folk Songs and The Spirituality Suite, the album Django in Orbit by Hot House West, and many others.
