Jazz at the Summit (JATS) Adult Band Institute, now in its third year, is the inspiration of Lt. Col. (Ret.) Beth Steele, the Director of the Summit Concert Band and the Executive Director of Music at the Summit Adult Band Institute. Hosted by the Summit Concert Band, JATS, a five day summer jazz festival, will be held from June 26-30, 2024, in the breathtaking mountains of Summit County, CO.
JATS will be led by the renowned performer, composer, clinician, and educator Tony Garcia, a Professor Emeritus and the former Director of Jazz Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Tony has performed as trombonist, bass trombonist, or pianist with 70 major artists including Ella Fitzgerald, George Shearing, Mel Tormé, Billy Eckstine, Doc Severinsen, Louie Bellson, Dave Brubeck, and Phil Collins and in Canada, Europe, South Africa, Australia, The Middle East, and across the United States.
Along with Tony, JATS is also extremely fortunate to have a diverse and talented group of jazz clinicians. These professional musicians will guide attendees through intensive rehearsals, sectionals, and masterclasses, with a final public performance at one of the region's foremost concert venues, the Riverwalk Center in picturesque Breckenridge, CO.
Join us in the beautiful Rocky Mountains for five days of fun, friendship, and great jazz music!
