Victor Arriaza is a guatemalan Jazz pianist, educator, composer, arranger and producer. Founder and pianist of the Imox Jazz Quartet and an active musician in national and international jazz scene as a lecturer, teacher and performer. He is currently the Instrumental Director of the Music and Visual Arts Faculty of the Da Vinci University of Guatemala – UDV, serving also a professor for the undergraduate programs in musical performance, music production and music education. Member of the Friends or Art Foundation (Fundación Amigos del Arte - FUNDADELA), a non-profit organization that organizes and carries out events such as the GuateJazz Festival, Jazz Camp Guatemala, among others.
He stands out as a versatile pianist with extensive knowledge in harmony, arrangement and jazz styles. He has also been involved in projects of diverse genres such as reggae, rock, classical piano and musical theater. As an educator and promoter of jazz he has been involved in the organization of educational festivals teaching classes and workshops on improvisation, jazz history and jazz harmony in various places in Guatemala.
With his quartet Imox Jazz, he has released four albums which include some of his own compositions as well as original arrangements by him. They has also participated in several editions of the International Jazz Festival of Guatemala, as well as in jazz festivals in other Central American countries, U.S., Mexico and Panama. He has interacted musically with musicians such as Andrea Motis, Dave Schoederer, Billy Drewes, Jason Marsalis, Erick Marienthal, Eli Jamin, LaFrae Sci, Andrew Stonerock, Adi Meyerson, among others. In addition, he was winner of third place in the Second National Jazz Composition Contest (2013) and the Estela Award for Best Jazz Band (2017) and Best Jazz Theme (2018).
As musical director, he has been in charge of several musical theater productions, including Annie the Musical (2012-2014), Chicago (2015, 2017), Rock of Ages (2016, 2018), Mary Poppins (2016), etc; as well as director of the project “Cine-Conciertos” where he, among other musicians, musicalize mute films.
