Blues/Jazz Theory is an approach to Jazz improvisation that correlates Jazz tonalities with tonal languages. By interpreting the functions of “blue notes” in linguistic terms it ascribes meanings to chromatic tones that extend beyond the “dissonance/consonance” paradigm of Western analysis and offers solutions to the challenges presented by Western analysis.
