This research investigates how a diplomatic mission sponsored by the US Department of State that sent a convoy of economists, intellectuals, and musicians to tour South America in 1960, gave Brazilian music global projection, and contributed to growing anti-communist sentiments that erupted in the Brazilian 1964 military coup .
