The United States Naval Academy Band was formed in November of 1852 by order of the Secretary of the Navy. The band provides support for the Superintendent, the Commandant, Midshipman Musical Activities, and the Naval Academy’s primary mission of developing Midshipmen morally, mentally and physically into the Navy’s future leaders. Serving as role models in military professionalism, the band performs for parades, graduations, athletic events, protocol social gatherings, retirements, funerals and other traditional military ceremonies at the Naval Academy. In the greater community, the band serves as ambassadors for the Naval Academy and the U.S. Navy, inspiring patriotism and esprit-de-corps through public performances and presentations.
The legacy of jazz and blues at the USNA Band is strong. Currently the Superintendent's Jazz Combo (septet), the Blues & Gold Band, and the Bravo Zulu Brass Band, are carrying this tradition forward.
The Naval Academy Band takes pride in representing the Naval Academy’s tradition of excellence. Performing at the highest professional standard for the Navy, the Naval Academy, and the citizens of this great country has been our mission since 1852.
